Chase Adds New Pay Yourself Back Benefits for Ink and Freedom Cards; Extends for Sapphire
Starting October 1, Chase is expanding its Pay Yourself Back tool. It will now include Ink and Freedom cards. Chase is also continuing the previously announced categories for Sapphire credit cards. Additionally, all eligible Ultimate Rewards credit cards will have the ability to redeem points towards donations made to eligible charities through Pay Yourself Back. This is giving Chase cardmembers even more flexibility. They will have the ability to choose how and when they use their points, at more value.
Chase Pay Yourself Back
Chase Ink Plus® and Ink Preferred®, as well as all Chase Freedom® cardmembers will have access to Pay Yourself Back to apply points towards existing purchases in select categories and get paid back with a statement credit. For Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Preferred® cardmembers, points will continue to be worth 50% and 25% more, across previously announced categories. Additionally, all eligible cardmembers can now use Pay Yourself Back to redeem points towards the contributions they make across a variety of charitable organizations.

After making a purchase in an eligible category or making a donation to an eligible charity, cardmembers can select from recent transactions made up to 90 days prior, choose to redeem points for all or a portion of the purchase, and get paid back with a statement credit. Categories and redemption values will evolve over time to continue to provide the most relevant and practical value for cardmembers.
To access the Pay Yourself Back feature, cardmembers can simply log into Ultimate Rewards on their desktop at www.chase.com/ultimaterewards or through the Chase mobile app.

Guru’s Wrap-up
The Chase Freedom and Chase Ink Business Plus cards are no longer available. But, it’s nice seeing that the new benefits will be added to those cards as well. For those that want to take advantage of the ‘Pay Yourself Back’ program, the best value is the Chase Sapphire Reserve card that makes your points 50% more valuable. However, bonus wise, the best offers available right now are for the Chase Ink Business Preferred and Chase Sapphire Preferred, 100K and 80K respectively.
The new Chase Freedom Flex is also a great card with a good bonus of $200, 5X on groceries for a year and no annual fee. But the ‘Pay Yourself Back’ feature only makes points worth 25% more when redeemed towards donations made to eligible charitable organizations. However if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve card for example, you can transfer points and redeem for purchases made on that card.
Also keep in mind that you get a new Chase card, here’s how you can start using it right away, even before it arrives in the mail.
Great news. Thanks. I won’t have to rush and redeem points before the month is over.
Any idea how the charities redemptions would work for tax purposes?
No idea, sorry.
woohooo
Here’s the conundrum though. I can earn 5% back on groceries for this year with the Freedom Unlimited (getting paid back at 1 point per penny isn’t appealing since I have the CSR at 1.5) or earn 1% with the CSR, but get paid back at 1.5%. I still come out ahead (right?), using Freedom Unlimited for groceries and moving the points to the CSR to redeem for (I hope!) Travel in the future.
There was a sweet time early on in Covid when the CSR earned 5% on groceries and I could pay myself back at 1.5%.
Yeah would be amazing if 5X on groceries comes back.
Just earn all the points you can with CFU first. And make some ‘grocery’ purchases with CSR, especially if they have deals around you for GCs.
Niceee. Thank you Chase!
Preferred went up to 50% or did it remain 25%?
Oops, sorry for getting your hopes up. Still 25%, just a typo. Fixed now.
