Chase Freedom Cards, $200 Welcome Bonus Plus Up to 9% Back on Groceries

Chase Freedom Cards Welcome Bonus

Update: The 5x grocery bonus on up to $12,000 spent in the first year is ending soon. That part of the welcome bonus ends on January 12.

Chase has made the signup bonus of Freedom cards much better. Besides the current $200 welcome offer, you can also earn 5% on grocery purchases during the first year. This is limited to just $12,000. The offer is publicly available for everyone. This is surely a limited time offer, and it could actually make sense to apply for these cards.

The additional Cash Back rewards will appear on your billing statement in a separate line from the base 1.5% Cash Back rewards. How you can use your points: You can use your points to redeem for any available reward options, including cash, gift cards, travel, and pay with points for products or services made available through the program or directly from third-party merchants. This product is available to you if you do not have this card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months.

Guru’s Wrap-up

Normally it doesn’t make sense to apply for Chase Freedom cards, since the welcome bonus is not very enticing. But right now with a $200 cash offer and 5X on grocery purchases, it is a competitive offer for both Freedom cards. It gets even better for grocery spend on the Freedom Flex card since you can earn up to 9% back thanks to Q3 categories.
