Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass to Lose Restaurant Access

Chase has announced upcoming changes cardmembers who have the , The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card from J.P. Morgan and the J.P. Morgan Reserve card. Currently those cardholders receive a Priority Pass Select membership which is complimentary for all cardholders.

But starting in July, cardmembers will lose access to restaurants, markets and other non-lounge locations.

Here’s the text that was included in the most recent monthly statement, as of March 26: 

“As of July 1, 2024 you will no longer have access to restaurants, cafes, and markets participating in the Priority Pass Select network as part of the Priority Pass Select Benefit associated with your Card. Access to Priority Pass Select’s network of lounges and other select airport experiences is not impacted by this update.”

This was confirmed to me by a Chase representative that said:

“Beginning July 1, 2024, Chase Sapphire Reserve, J.P. Morgan Reserve and The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card cardmembers will no longer have access to restaurants, cafes and markets participating in Priority Pass Select™. Access to Priority Pass Select’s network of lounges and other select airport experiences is not impacted by this update.”

But Chase is not the first credit issuer to make this move. American Express started it all in 2019, and then Capital One followed suit last year.

Once the Chase Sapphire Reserve Priority Pass loses restaurant access, it leaves the Bank of America Premium Rewards Elite, Capital One Venture X Business and UBS Visa Infinite Credit Card as the best options to get complimentary Priority Pass Select with access to restaurants and other non-lounge locations.

What are Dining Credits?

Priority Pass restaurant credits allow eligible members to dine at a discount in participating restaurants in airport terminals. There are more than 30 airport restaurants in the United States and more overseas, where you can use your Priority Pass membership (upon enrollment) to receive a $28 dining credit (or $30) each for yourself and a guest, for $56 total toward your bill. The credits are cumulative on the total bill.

Some restaurants will add the tip before deducting the credits while others will not, so be sure to check the bill to see if you are looking to leave a tip.

How to Use Priority Pass Restaurant Credits

You’ll likely find it’s simple to use your Priority Pass restaurant credits, and you still have a few months left to use it if you are a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmember. If you do have that benefit then when you arrive at a restaurant that participates in the Priority Pass program, let them know you’re a Priority Pass member and would like to use your dining credits. The restaurant employee will likely ask to see your membership card, either the physical or digital version, as well as your boarding pass.

The rest of your dining experience will proceed as usual. You’ll be seated and served like any other diner. When the bill comes, you’ll see the dining credits applied. It’s important to note that guest limitations may vary depending on your membership level or credit card. Be sure to carefully check your membership details beforehand so you know what to expect.
