Amex Referral Bonus Increased to 20K Points for Some Cardholders

Update: Some people are seeing a new highest ever 30K referral bonus.

American Express has become pretty generous with referral bonuses lately. You can refer people to almost any American Express credit card, and you can get great bonuses as well. But as I’ve warned in the past, stay away from self referrals. American Express has clawed back these bonuses. Just have a friend or family member refer you, or vice versa. You can also use one of my referral links to apply for American Express credit cards.

Now there’s some good news for those who have the Amex Gold cards or Amex Platinum or other cards as far as referrals go. Referral bonuses have increased to 20,000 Membership Rewards points per each person you refer. The annual limit is still at 55,000 points per card. So now you can maximize it with 3 referrals, instead of 6 that you would need previously.
