American Express has become pretty generous with referral bonuses lately. You can refer people to almost any American Express credit card, and you can get great bonuses as well. But as I’ve warned in the past, stay away from self referrals. American Express has been clawing back these bonuses for many people. It’s safer to just have a friend or family member refer you, or vice versa.
Now there’s some good news for those who have the Amex Gold Card, as far as referrals go. The referral bonus has been increased to 20,000 Membership Rewards points per each person you refer. This bonus was previously 10,000 points only. The annual limit is still at 55,000 points per card. So now you can maximize it with 3 referrals, instead of 6 that you would need previously.
