Guru’s Wrap-up

Earning the Companion Pass with just one credit card is a big deal and Chase has crunched the numbers to make it exactly 125,000 points once all the spending requirement is completed. You earn 5,000 points for the first $5K spending and then get a bonus of 70K points. You then spend $20K more and get another 20K points for the spending, and the extra 30K points for reaching the $25K spending within 6 months. Add that all up and you have 125,000 points, enough for your Southwest Companion Pass. And that is assuming all your spending being in non-bonus categories. And the timing is also good as you can have your Companion Pass for the rest of 2020 and 2021.

While it is true that earning the Companion Pass with one card is a rare offer, keep in mind that you need to spend a total of $25,000 within six months to do so. and you are earning just 30,000 points for that extra $20K in spending. That’s just an extra 1.5x points per dollar. If hard inquiries are not a big issue for you, then you could consider going for the 70K points only from this offer and applying for a personal card also. Sadly those offers were lowered just yesterday to 40,000 points. But spending wise, you still come out way ahead. Also keep in mind that personal cards count towards you 5/24, while the Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Credit Card doesn’t.
