Legacy Hyatt Cards Will Automatically Convert to World of Hyatt Visa
The legacy Hyatt credit card is a card that has not been available for new applications for a while. However many people still have it in their wallets, or in their sock drawer. The main reason for holding on to the legacy Hyatt credit card is that the annual fee is only $75, and you still get a free night certificate annually. That is $20 less than the newer World of Hyatt Visa card. It also earns 3x points at Hyatt hotels and 2x points on dining, airlines and car rentals. You also get Hyatt Discoverist status just for being a cardholder, and Hyatt Explorist when you spend $50,000 or more in a calendar year.
But the card will soon be gone. It will soon be converted to the World of Hyatt Visa automatically this November. The information comes from Waller’s Wallet YouTube Channel, which is a very reliable source. Cardholders will probably receive a notification about the switch soon.
What Should You Do
The World of Hyatt Visa is a great card for people that regularly stay at Hyatt hotels and especially those who value Hyatt elite status. The card has a $95 annual fee, so you would be paying only $20 more every year. It currently has a 50,000 points welcome offer.
Previously we had seen some small bonuses offered to legacy Hyatt credit cardholders, but they are no longer available. Come November, you will likely be upgraded without a bonus at all. That could be one option, just do nothing. But that would only make sense if you are not able to apply for another Chase card due to the Chase 5/24 rule.
If you are eligible to apply for Chase cards then your best bet would be close your current card and apply for the World of Hyatt Visa. You will be eligible for the 50K points welcome offer since you will not have received a bonus within the last 24 months. You can do this after the conversion as well.
Waller’s Wallet has had reliable information in the past, so the automatic conversion should be coming. You need to decide for yourself whether the new card makes sense for you, but I think for most people that stay at Hyatt hotels get good value out of it.

Guru’s Wrap-up
Some people have kept the legacy Hyatt card just for the $75 anniversary night. The annual fee will get $20 more expensive once the card is converted to the World of Hyatt Visa. You need to make a decision if that works for you. But if you stay at Hyatt hotels, then the card should get you some good value besides the possible welcome offer of 50,000 bonus points. We have seen better offers for 60K and even targeted offers for 70K in the past, so there’s no rush to apply.

Do you have an update on when the conversion from the Legacy to the WOH card will occur? I just called Chase and they had no idea.
Nope, no updates since then. Sorry!
