Improved Referral Bonus for Amex Cards, Extra 4X Point at Lowe’s, Home Depot Etc.
I wrote earlier today about a great improvement to welcome bonuses for American Express consumer cards. Those offers are available through referrals, which makes them all better since the person referring you gets a bonus as well. But those referral bonuses have also been improved, with the opportunity to earn extra points on purchases when referring friends and family members.
You can usually get $75 to $100, or 10,000 to 30,000 Membership Rewards points for referrals. Now, in addition to the usual referral bonus you also get the following:
- Refer A Friend to apply by 5/5. Once they’re approved, you can earn +4 Membership Rewards® points per dollar on your eligible purchases at the following select U.S. home furnishing stores, on up to $25,000 in combined purchases for three months: Anthropologie – Home & Furniture, Bed Bath & Beyond, CB2, Crate and Barrel, Crate and Kids, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Terrain, and The Container Store.
The offer is also available for American Express Cards that earn other currencies besides Membership Rewards points. Card Members can earn 4 more Membership Rewards points, 4% more cash back or 4x miles, per dollar, up to $25K, on eligible purchases at select U.S. home furnishing stores.

Referral bonuses have been improved for personal cards only, as far as I see. You just need to refer a friend by May 5th, and you get an additional 4X Membership Rewards points for your eligible purchases at Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc.
