Some Citi Premier Cardholders Get Annual Fee Waiver
Credit card issuers have been generous during the pandemic with multiple offers to keep cardholders pending and using their credit cards. One way to keep cardholders for another year is to offer some kind of retention bonus or credit, especially for premium cards that have an annual fee. Getting some kind of credit or bonus for paying the annual fee and keeping the card for another year, always makes the decision easier. Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders have received credits up to $250. Amex Platinum cardholders have seen bonuses as high as 50K Membership Rewards points. We have also seen these offers for no fee cards recently. Check out our full list of retention offers here.
To get these retention offers you normally need to call in or send a message and ask for any offers available for your accounts. But Citi is doing this proactively for some current cardholders. The Miles Man reports that he noticed that his Citi Premier statement showed a ‘$95 annual fee waiver’ and a $0 charge. That’s instead of the expected $95 annual fee that was due.
Citi Premier currently earns 3X on air travel, gas, supermarkets and restaurants. You also get an annual $100 discount on a single hotel stay of $500 or more. So being able to keep the card for no annual fee is a sweet deal. For those who don’t have this card, currently you can earn 60,000 bonus ThankYou points when you spend $4,000 in 3 months.
Just keep in mind that Bonus ThankYou Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for Citi Rewards+, Citi ThankYou Preferred, Citi ThankYou Premier/Citi Premier or Citi Prestige, or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months.
