American Express is offering some Green Card customers a bonus of 40,000 Membership Rewards points for upgrading to the Gold Card.

Annual Fee

The Amex Gold card has a $250 annual fee. When you upgrade, your card anniversary date doesn’t change. You will be charged a prorated annual membership fee for your new Card based on the time remaining until your next account anniversary date.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This is a good way to get a 40K bonus on the Amex Gold card without a hard pull on your credit report. The bonus is close to the best offer we have seen for this card, which is 50,000 points. But with upgrading you also miss out on a referral bonus.
