American Airlines Gets Rid of Redeposit Fees

American Airlines has announced today yet another improvement to the AAdvantage loyalty program. The carrier is eliminating service fees for new award tickets issued by reservations starting November 11, 2020.

Earlier this fall, American Airlines eliminated change fees on award travel within the U.S. and between the U.S. and several international destinations. Effective immediately, they are also eliminating award travel change fees to all remaining destinations. Award reinstatement fees are also gone as of today.

If you cancel an eligible award trip on the AA website, your miles will be reinstates automatically in many cases. Everyone can now cancel an award right until departure for free. Miles redeemed for eligible upgrade awards, car and hotel awards, and American Airlines Vacations packages can also be reinstated at no charge by contacting Reservations.

AAdvantage Miles Expiration Paused through June 2021

Because of the pandemic and the added risk for travel, American Airlines has paused the expiration of miles through June 30, 2021. If your miles are scheduled to expire on or before June 30, 2021, they will now expire in July 2021, if there’s no additional activity in your account before then.

Member accounts are being updated with the new expiration date. The airlines says that if your miles expire before they make the adjustment, they will reactivate them.
