American Airlines is once again offering some great awards all over the country. Looks like most or all domestic routes have some dates that require just 5,000 miles to fly one way. Even transcontinental routes are showing that price, with dates mostly in 2020. These cheap award fares are under Economy Web Specials.
To find these 5K fares, start your search on the AA website and select your departure and destination. Select redeem points and then click on ‘calendar’ to see the monthly view that makes it easier to browse through dates. Here’s an example for travel between JFK and LAX.
When you choose your flights, make sure to click on ‘Economy Web Specials’ to see these 5K fares. So roundtrip fare will come out to just 10K miles and $11.20 for fees.
The American Airlines Award Map is also a great tool to check out if you don;t have a set destination in mind. You can choose your “From” airport and then see where your miles can take you. Just leave the “To” box set to “Continental U.S.”.
Economy Web Special Awards
Available exclusively on aa.com, Economy Web Special awards may be offered on select flights and dates for fewer miles than either the AAnytime or MileSAAver award level for travel in the Main Cabin. Mileage levels vary by date and flight. When available, you’ll see the applicable award level while booking your trip.
Tickets that include an Economy Web Special award don’t allow changes, and while you can cancel and reinstate your miles, fees apply. There’s a redeposit fee of $150 for the first passenger and $25 per additional passenger. Reinstatement fees are waived for Executive Platinum members. Executive Platinum elites can also get upgrades.
