American Airlines Cancels 16 Award Tickets Nearly Two Weeks Later

An American Airlines customer says the airline canceled 16 award tickets nearly two weeks after they were booked and ticketed, claiming the original bookings were issued by mistake.

The traveler shared the story on X, saying American had already issued the tickets and taken the miles and money before later canceling all 16 reservations. He also says he had already spent around $5,000 planning the trip by the time the tickets were pulled.

โ€œAmerican Airlines sold me 16 tickets, issued them, took my miles/moneyโ€ฆ Then nearly 2 weeks later they canceled ALL 16 because they said they made a mistake.โ€

According to his posts, the reservations werenโ€™t simply held or pending. The tickets had already been issued, which makes the situation much more frustrating, especially considering how much time had passed. He did not share how much he paid for his flights.

American reportedly told him the awards had been priced or issued incorrectly and canceled the tickets rather than honoring them.

That distinction matters. Airlines occasionally pull fares or award space when thereโ€™s an obvious pricing error, but this case stands out because the reservations apparently remained ticketed for close to two weeks before American took action.

More people have reported similar cancellation in that thread and on reddit. At least one customer was given 20,000 miles for their troubles.
