Guruโs Wrap-up
Chase is marketing this as a 75,000-point welcome bonus, but that’s a bit misleading. The offer is really worth 60,000 bonus points. On the second part of the offer, you’ll earn 2 points per dollar on up to $15,000 in purchases that would normally earn 1 point per dollar. Since you would have earned 15,000 base points from that spending anyway, the promotion is only giving you an additional 15,000 bonus points. Combined with the initial 45,000-point bonus, that’s a total of 60,000 bonus points, not 75,000.
That doesn’t necessarily make it a bad offer. Putting $15,000 of spending on the card also earns you a Category 1-4 Free Night Award and 6 Tier-Qualifying Night credits (EQNs) toward World of Hyatt elite status, thanks to the card’s benefit of earning 2 qualifying night credits for every $5,000 spent. You also get 5 elite qualifying nights as a cardholder for a total of 11 EQNs. Those perks add meaningful value if you’re working toward Explorist or Globalist status.
Still, if you’re simply comparing welcome bonuses, it’s important to recognize that the advertised 75,000 points includes the 15,000 base points you would earn from spending anyway. The true welcome bonus is 60,000 points, with the additional value coming from the free night certificate and elite qualifying nights earned through the required spending.
