Popular Community Bank had a great offer last year for a bonus of $500. They have now brought the offer back but it’s available only in-branch in Hoboken, NJ. Could still be worth checking other branches in NY, NJ and FL to see if they have the same offer.
Bonus Requirement
The bonus comes in two parts:
- Get $200 when you open a new Popular Prestige Checking or Popular Everyday Checking account and set up direct deposit.
- Get $300 when you open a new Popular Prestige Checking or Popular Everyday Checking account with a deposit of at least $10,000 in new money and maintain the $10,000 balance for 60 days.
To get $500, open a new account with direct deposit AND at least $10,000 in new money, which is both requirements above, combined.
Eligibility
This bonus is available in branch in Hoboken, NJ. You should go check your local branches in NY, NJ and FL to see if they have it as well.
Bonuses are limited to one per customer, per lifetime. Checking offer is available only for new Popular Prestige Checking and Popular Everyday Checking accounts. I don’t think the lifetime rule is enforced though.
Fees
Popular Everyday Checking account has a $10 monthly fee that can be waived by fulfilling the following requirements:
- $1,000 in average monthly checking balance OR
- Regular monthly direct deposit of a minimum aggregate amount of $750
There’s also a $25 early account termination fee if you close account within 6 months.
They have a $2 Paper Statement fee as well, so make sure you enroll in electronic statements.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
This is a great bonus that can net you $500 in total if you have $10K to deposit in the account and keep it there for 2 months. But it has its limitations since it’s only in one branch so far. Let me know if you see it in other cities.
I opened the account myself in October 2017, and already received $200. Just waiting on the rest of it. make sure you sign and return the signature form, otherwise they will close your account probably before you get the second part of the bonus.
