No Lifetime Language Welcome Bonuses Available Through Amex Offers

No Lifetime Language Welcome Bonuses Available Through Amex Offers

American Express limits welcome bonuses on credit cards to just once per lifetime. The fine print on most offer states that they “are not available to applicants who have or have had this Card.” As far as American Express is concerned, lifetime usually means seven years. If you’re not sure what cards you’ve had within that time period, there’s an easy way to check, or you can apply and see if you get a pop-up.

But rarely we also see targeted offers that do not contain this language in the terms. That means that you are able to get a second bonus on the same card even if you have recently received one. These types of offers are usually sent out by email, but some people are now being targeted in a different manner.

Doctor of Credit writes that some Amex cardholders are seeing welcome bonuses in the Amex Offers section in their account which have no lifetime language. Just scroll down to your offers and check if you have any such offers and also look for the terms. If you can’t find the following language, “not available to applicants who have or have had this Card,” it means that you should be eligible for another welcome bonus even if you recently received one. It could also show up as a banner at the top of the page, inviting you to apply for a new card.

These are some of the offers that are showing up are:

  • Business Gold – 35,000 Points
  • Business Platinum – 75,000 Points w/ $15K Spend
  • Personal Platinum – 60,000 Points w/ $5K Spend
  • Blue Cash Preferred – $300 w/ $3K Spend

Guru’s Wrap-up

These offers are a good opportunity to get another welcome bonus on cards that you have had in the past. It makes sense to apply even if it’s not the best offer available.

But if you are eligible for a bonus, it’s best to wait for better offers or see if you can do better right now. If you have never had the Business Platinum card for example, you could get a 95K welcome bonus through referrals. The personal Platinum card has also offered a 75K bonus recently through referrals.

Let me know if you see any of these bonuses in your Amex Offers.
