News Roundup

This is a roundup of news and other interesting pieces that I’ve come across over the last few days. Silicon Valley Bank shuts down, 3 new Avelo routes, Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Montréal, Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island, and U.S. Treasury Direct changes.

Silicon Valley Bank is shut down by regulators

Financial regulators have closed Silicon Valley Bank and taken control of its deposits, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. announced Friday, in what is the largest U.S. bank failure since the Global Financial Crisis more than a decade ago. The collapse of SVB, a key player in the tech and venture capital community, leaves companies and wealthy individuals largely unsure of what will happen to their money. SVB is also the processor for Plastiq payments.

Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Montréal Celebrates Official Opening

Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Montréal

Hyatt officially announced today the first Hyatt Centric hotel in Canada, Hyatt Centric Ville-Marie Montréal, in collaboration with global real estate developer Jesta Group. Centrally located in the heart of Old Montréal, the property boasts 177 modern upscale guestrooms, including five suites, a signature restaurant fusing Québec and British cuisines, a rooftop pool (slated for summer 2023), as well as four fully equipped meeting and event facilities sprawling nearly 5,000 square feet. The hotel provides savvy travelers a launchpad for exploration, offering an opportunity to discover the iconic neighborhood of Old Montréal and everything Montréal has to offer.

Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island

Royal Caribbean International, the world’s largest and most popular cruise line, is moving ahead with the development of the first Royal Beach Club after receiving approval from the government of The Bahamas. The 17-acre destination experience coming to the western end of Paradise Island in Nassau, The Bahamas, will combine the island’s striking beaches with the cruise line’s signature experiences to create the ultimate beach day – The Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island.

Alongside private cabanas, stunning pools and more, the vibrant Bahamian spirit and culture will come to life throughout the world-class destination experience. Vacationers will be welcomed by local architecture that complements the exceptional views of The Bahamas’ turquoise-blue waters and white sand beaches, along with experiences that feature Bahamian fare, island-style barbecues, live music and local artisans.

U.S. Treasury Direct Makes It Easy To Add & Change Bank Accounts

U.S. Treasury Direct made it easier to add and change bank accounts as a funding source for your account. Previously they required a paper form with bank notary in order to change your bank. Now, you can easily change banks or even save multiple banks to the same login.
