There’s a new M&T Bank $200 checking account bonus available. These bonuses used to be churnable but that’s no longer the case and it’s likely that many readers will already have account and will not be eligible.
$200 Bonus Requirements
In order to receive the bonus you need to:
- Open any new personal checking account by March 23, 2018
- Use promo code TE when you sign up.
- Make a direct deposit of at least $500 within 90 days of account opening.
The fine print says that the $200 bonus will be deposited within 90 days, but it is usually deposited on the same day as the “direct deposit”. I’ve been using ACH transfers from Capital One 360.
Eligibility
This offer is only available to residents of CT, DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA and WV.
Cash bonus offers are not available to employees of M&T Bank or any of its affiliates or to customers who have already received a bonus in connection with an M&T personal checking account within the preceding twelve-month period.
Fees
EZChoice Checking is the best option. You can avoid the $6.95 monthly fee just by making one transaction such as a deposit, withdrawal, or debit purchase every month. Basic Checking is also an option, with a non waivable $3 monthly fee.
A $50 early close-out fee applies if the account is closed within 180 days of the date the account was opened.

This is one of the better bonuses from M&T Bank. Definitely take a look if you’re in one of the lucky states and if you haven’t had an account in the last 12 months. The account can be opened online also and all you need to do is a direct deposit of $500. They’re pretty lenient on what counts as a direct deposit.
