MoviePass is still alive but it’s going through some very rough times. Their stock is down to 5 cents and they have made several changes that deeply devalues their membership. But it’s even worse than what was first announced.
On Friday, before the app crashed entirely, moviegoers were forced to choose between Slenderman, a horror movie with bad reviews, and Mission Impossible: Fallout. Even those movies had limitations. The Post reported that, when using MoviePass at an AMC in Times Square in NYC, Mission Impossible was available only at two showtimes: one in the mid-afternoon and the other around 10:45 pm, which would see viewers getting out at around 1:30 in the morning.
MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe implied that the policy was a temporary one until the company moved to its three-movies-a-month plan in September.
If you;re just tired of MoviePass already you can cancel anytime. If you have annual subscription purchased from Costco, then you can probably get a full refund now and be done with MoviePass. Otherwise you can try going through your credit card for a chargeback.
There’s some other similar services out there such as Sinemia, AMC Stubs A-List and Alamo Drafthouse.
