Lyft and United Launch Pay with Miles Feature
Today, Lyft and United Airlines launched a new feature that lets MileagePlus® members redeem their miles directly in the Lyft app to pay for rides.
The feature is live today for all MileagePlus members who have linked their Lyft and United accounts. Members can use miles to cover the full cost of any eligible Lyft ride, or split the fare with another payment method. They can see exactly how many miles will be redeemed before confirming.
This builds on the collaboration Lyft and United launched in November 2025, which introduced mile-earning on eligible Lyft rides (up to 4 miles per $1 on pre-scheduled airport rides).
How Pay with Miles Works
MileagePlus® members who link their Lyft accounts will find a new pay with miles option in the Lyft app when requesting a ride. Members can see how many miles will be redeemed before confirming their booking. After the finished ride, a receipt shows the miles redeemed and the amount deducted from the total ride cost.
You can’t choose how many miles to redeem for a ride. If your balance can cover the full price of the ride, you will be given the option to do that. If your balance only covers part of the cost, then you can still redeem your whole miles balance and pay the rest with a linked payment method.
United did not share what value you get for your miles, and I have not tested it yet myself.
Any portion of a Ride Cost that was paid for using MileagePlus miles will not earn MileagePlus miles. Any qualifying portion of the ride that is paid for using another payment method (excluding gift cards and credits) will still earn the respective United MileagePlus miles.
Link Accounts, Earn 1,000 Miles
New Lyft riders who link their MileagePlus® account, and complete two rides within 30 days will receive 1,000 bonus MileagePlus miles.
