Hyatt Giving 10K Points to Customers Who Cancel Non-Refundable Stays

Many airlines and hotels around the world are changing their cancellation and change policies due to the coronovirus pandemic. Hyatt is also making an effort to compensate World of Hyatt members if they choose to cancel a reservation over coronavirus fears.

Any guest who has booked a nonrefundable, prepaid rate directly with Hyatt on or before March 8th will get 10,000 World of Hyatt points if they cancel their trip. The offer is good for travel through the end of June. It applied to bookings at any of the 900+ Hyatt hotels across 17 brands globally.

The compensation is a fixed amount, regardless of how long the stay is or how much it cost. But members who have multiple stays they wish to cancel will receive multiple reimbursements of 10,000 points.

  • For full details and to make arrangements, guests can call one of our Global Contact Centers or email us at worldofhyatt@hyatt.com.
  • Guests must contact us at least 48 hours before their stay to elect this (World of Hyatt Explorists and Globalists must contact us at least 24 hours before their stay dates to elect this).
  • For interested non-members, colleagues will be able to quickly assist with enrolling the guest into World of Hyatt and creating a World of Hyatt account to deposit the points.

Hyatt is waiving cancellation fees for stays through March 31, 2020 for the following:

  • Guests residing in Greater China, South Korea, Japan and Italy with reservations at Hyatt hotels globally
  • Guests with reservations at Hyatt hotels in Greater China, South Korea, Japan and Italy

Guru’s Wrap-up

10,000 World of Hyatt points are probably worth about $150. That will not make you whole for most Hyatt reservations, but it still something compared to a total loss. I would have expected something better, and maybe they will update their policy now that World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
