Chase Freedom 5% Categories for Q4

Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex are great products to have in your wallet. They have no annual fee and earn Ultimate Rewards points when you have another Chase premium card. Now the Chase Freedom bonus categories have been revealed for Q4 2022. These are great categories, which Freedom and Freedom Flex cardholders can definitely use.

Chase Freedom Cards

The Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards earn 1% on all purchases but also 5% on rotating quarterly bonus categories, up to a combined $1,500 in purchases. So you can earn up to $75 every quarter, if you maximize the eligible categories. You can even have more than one Freedom card. But it gets much better than that, since the cashback can be used as Ultimate Rewards points.

To do that, you need to have one of the premium or business cards from Chase. That’s Chase Sapphire PreferredChase Sapphire ReserveInk Business Preferred or Ink Business Plus. Then the points earned with your Chase Freedom cards can be converted into Ultimate Rewards points and transferred to travel partners.

Chase Freedom 5% Categories

The categories for the fourth quarter of 2022 have now been revealed. The new 5% categories include:

  • PayPal: Cardmembers will automatically earn 5% cashback on eligible purchases made when checking out with PayPal at tens of millions of online businesses. You can even pay taxes with PayPal.
  • Walmart: Cardmembers will automatically earn 5% cashback when shopping for gifts, groceries and more when shopping at Walmart or on Walmart.com. Purchases made using PayPal at Walmart will only earn a total of 5% cashback.

You can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in these categories from October 1 to December 31, 2022. You can activate the new categories here, starting on September 15, 2022. Must activate by December 14, 2022.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

PayPal is a great category, as you can earn 5% cash back on most online purchases where PayPal is accepted. Walmart is also a good option as you can rarely get 5% cash back on those purchases.

Don’t forget to maximize this quarter’s categories as well. You have until the end of the day to activate these categories and until end of September to spend $1,500 at:

  • Gas Stations
  • Rental Car Agencies
  • Movie Theaters
  • Select Live Entertainment
  • Learn more

If you don’t have the card, you can sign up and earn a $200 bonus cash back when you spend $500 within the first three months. Plus you get 5% cash back on gas station purchases on up to $6,000 spent in the first year. You can also product change other Chase cards, if you want to have it but don’t really want to apply for a new card, especially with the bonus being on the lower end.
