Chase Freedom Q3 2022 5% Categories
Chase Freedom (no longer available) and Freedom Flex are great products to have in your wallet. They have no annual fee and earn Ultimate Rewards points when you have another Chase premium card. With the Chase Freedom Flex you can also earn 5% on travel purchased through Chase, 3% on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services, and 3% on drugstore purchases. Then there are the rotating 5% categories. Now the Chase Freedom bonus categories have been revealed for Q3 2022 and you can already activate them. These are not the best categories, but can still be useful.
Chase Freedom Cards
The Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards earn 1% on all purchases but also 5% on rotating quarterly bonus categories, up to a combined $1,500 in purchases. So you can earn up to $75 every quarter, if you maximize the eligible categories. After you spend a combined $1,500 in the bonus categories, the cash-back rate drops to 1% (this is when you should switch to another card, with better earning). This maximum spending requirement resets every quarter. In order to earn 5% cash back on eligible categories, you’re required to activate them each quarter.
You can even have more than one Freedom card. But it gets much better than that, since the cashback can be used as Ultimate Rewards points. To do that, you need to have one of the premium or business cards from Chase. That’s Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred or Ink Business Plus. Then the points earned with your Chase Freedom cards can be converted into Ultimate Rewards points and transferred to travel partners.
Chase Freedom 5% Categories
The categories for the third quarter of 2022 have now been revealed. You can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in these categories from July 1 to September 30, 2022. You can activate the new categories starting on June 15, 2022. The new 5% categories include:
- Gas Stations
- Rental Car Agencies
- Movie Theaters
- Select Live Entertainment
