Citi is offering 20,000 ThankYou points for their ThankYou Preferred Card. What’s interesting about the offer is that it comes with no spending requirement at all.

The wording is a bit weird. It says that in order to receive the points, you need to make $0 in purchases within 3 months of account opening. 

Maybe they mean you shouldn’t use your card at all for the first three months? Exactly $0 in purchases? Most likely not.

Make sure you take screen shots of the offer and your application, in case this is a mistake from Citi and they try to withhold the points later on.

This is a good deal considering the card has no annual fee. The card earns 2 ThankYou points per dollar spent on purchases for dining at restaurants and entertainment and 1 ThankYou point on all other purchases. Points do not expire.

The card offers has had a higher bonus in the past. 30,000 ThankYou points with a $2,000 spend requirement.

Bonus ThankYou Points not available if you have had a Citi ThankYou Preferred card opened or closed in the past 18 months.

Other Cards With $0 Spending Requirement?

On the Citi page there’s some other cards that are showing a $0 spending requirement, such as the AAdvantage Executive World EliteTM MasterCard or AAdvantage Platinum Select World MasterCard. However when you click the “Learn More & Apply” link, they show a spending requirement.

For these cards, most likely they won’t honor the bonus if you don’t do any spending.
