Chase Freedom Cards Welcome Bonus

Update: As gas prices continue to hit new heights, filling up your tank can put a large dent in your wallet. To help consumers get more when at the pump, Chase Freedom is extending its new cardmember gas station offer until October 16, 2022.

With the recent increase in gas prices, driving to the grocery store, commuting to work or running errands, can add up. As of today, January 13, new cardmembers applying for a Chase Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex credit card can earn $200 and 5% cashback on gas. With this new offer you can save at the pump every time. 

This is probably not as good as the previous offer, which gave you 5% cash back at grocery stores. But it should still be useful for many people. If you want 5% on groceries, that offer is still showing here for now. There’s also a different offer for the Chase Freedom Unlimited card that gives you an extra 1.5% on all purchases for the first $20K spending.

In addition to the new welcome offer, Freedom Unlimited and Flex cardmembers earn 5% cash back on travel purchased through Ultimate Rewards, 3% cashback on dining (including takeout and eligible delivery services) and drugstores, plus access to rotating quarterly categories where they can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in purchases. Unlimited cardmembers receive 1.5% cashback on all other purchases while Flex cardmembers receive 1%, making everyday spending even more rewarding. The offer is publicly available for everyone.

Offer Terms for Gas Purchases

You’ll earn 5% Cash Back rewards total for each $1 spent on purchases in the gas station category made within your first 12 months from account opening, or until you reach $6,000 in gas station purchases, whichever occurs first. The additional 3.5% or 4% Cash Back rewards will appear on your billing statement in a separate line from the base 1.5% or 1% Cash Back rewards.

This product is available to you if you do not have this card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months.

Chase Freedom Cards Bonus: Guru’s Wrap-up

Normally it doesn’t make sense to apply for Chase Freedom cards, since the welcome bonus is not very enticing. But right now with a $200 cash offer and 5X on gas purchases, it is a competitive offer for both Freedom cards. It could be worth waiting until gas is a 5% bonus category on the Freedom Flex card to get most of your spending done.
