The bonuses are now much better at 50K for the $99 card and 60K for the $499 card. You also earn status immediately for having the card although you need to meet a spending threshold to keep status going forward ($40K and $20K annually).
The Barclays Emirates Skywards Rewards card could be a good option now with a 50K bonus for those who need Skywards miles.
