American Airlines Offers Vouchers For Seat Fee Refunds
American Airlines has updated its seat fee refund policy. The airline will now let you request a voucher for the value of a non refundable seat if you cancel your trip. The new policy applies to all flights booked by June 30th for travel through September 30th, 2020.
This is a positive move that lets you get your money back if you cancel, although not as good as a full refund. Previously, refunds were only given for upgrades to a premium cabin and flights canceled within 24 hours of booking. You also get a refund if American Airlines cancels your flight.
Beware that besides trips canceled within the 24-hour fee-free refund period, refunds and vouchers may not be given automatically. Customers must submit separate requests for their flights, seats, and other purchases. You can do so by calling American or visiting its website.
Guru’s Wrap-up
There are still plenty of concerns surrounding air travel during the current COVID-19 pandemic, so this should be positive development for both the airline and passengers. The cash-strapped airline doesn’t have to pay anything out of pocket, and passengers don’t lose out if they choose to cancel or change their travel plans.
