Delta Basic Fare Change and Cancellation Fees Now Reach $500
Delta has increased the cost of changing or canceling some of its new Basic fares, with fees now reaching as high as $500 for premium-cabin tickets.
Until recently, Delta charged a flat $99 fee to change or cancel Basic tickets originating in the United States and Canada, regardless of the cabin. Under the new tiered structure, Main Basic and Comfort Basic remain at $99, while fees for premium cabins are significantly higher.
The new fees are:
- Main Basic: $99
- Comfort Basic: $99
- First Basic: $300
- Premium Select Basic: $400
- Basic Business: Up to $500
Deltaโs own change and cancellation page now lists change fees of up to $400 and cancellation charges of up to $500, depending on the ticket and itinerary. Any remaining value after a cancellation is generally issued as an eCredit.
These higher fees arrive as Delta expands its unbundled fare structure beyond the Main cabin. Travelers now choose among Basic, Classic and Extra fares within Main, Comfort, First, Premium Select and Delta One. Premium Basic fares come with restrictions that include reduced mileage earning, lower baggage allowances, no upgrades and no same-day changes.
Medallion status does not waive these Basic fare penalties. Travelers can avoid them by purchasing a more flexible fare. You can also cancel a qualifying U.S.-origin ticket within Deltaโs 24-hour risk-free cancellation period.
