Via Ridesharing Service Shutting Down

Via, a ridesharing service that is available in NYC and a couple of other cities, is shutting down. I found Via to be usually cheaper than Uber and Lyft in NYC, and used them often. They had less drivers on their platform so you would usually have to wait a few more minutes for a ride. But it was a good option to have most of the time. It was also useful during the height of pandemic with an extra 20% discount.

Now Via has sent out emails to its customers announcing that as of December 20th, it will discontinue the New York rideshare service. The company will now focus on providing software to public transportation systems in cities around the country and the world.

Via is refunding any remaining Ride Credit you’ve purchased. Ride Credit is credit purchased towards future rides, but does not include promotional codes or credits, which are non-refundable and may only be used within the service. Refunds will be issued to the original form of payment, so please make sure this form of payment is still connected with your Via account. The refund will be processed on 12/20 and may take a few business days to reach your account. So if you have any credit left on your accounts that you think will not be refunded, make sure you use it up before that date.
