United Status Match Challenge for 2020
United Airlines is offering those with frequent flier status at competing airlines the opportunity to receive United status as well. This United Status Match Challenge for 2020 will allow Delta Medallion gold members to experience United MileagePlus Premier Gold. American Airlines Platinum Pro members get to try out MileagePlus Premier Platinum. The offer will get you United Premier status for 90 days and it is possible to extend through next year, or even 2022.
Status Match Offer
If you meet the criteria to participate in the Premier status match offer, your account will be upgraded for 90 days to Premier Silver, Premier Gold or Premier Platinum status based on the level you hold in your current frequent flyer program. For example:

Status Challenge
If they want to keep the status beyond that, they must fly a certain number of flights within the 90-day period. To maintain Premier Silver status, within 90 days, you must fly four qualifying flights and earn 1,000 points. For gold, those numbers increase to six flights and 2,000 points. Travelers seeking platinum status must fly 10 flights and earn 3,000 points within a 90-day period.

There is some restrictions. You can’t transfer your status to MileagePlus if you only have status at the other airline based on a similar challenge. You can’t reapply for status match if you’ve already done the program within the past five years and you cannot earn a higher status than what you applied for within the 90-day period.
Customers who earn Premier status through this promotion will have their accounts updated in the system within five to seven business days of completion and posting of the outlined PQF and PQP requirements for the status level matched to in MileagePlus. Earned 2020 Premier status is valid through January 2021. The MileagePlus status is valid through January 2022 for customers who earn Premier status through this promotion on or after July 1, 2020.

If you have Delta or AA status already, then this is an easy to match to United Premier status for free for 90 days. If you think you might get some use out of the Premier status you can try fulfilling the requirement to extended it even longer.
Just plan accordingly, based on when you plan to fly most with United Airlines. If you complete the challenge requirements before July 1st, your status will expire on 1/31/21. If you complete it on or after Just 1st, your status is valid until 1/31/22.
