United Slashes NYC Area Flights Due to Coronavirus
United Airlines announced today that it is slashing operations at two NYC area airports, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia. The temporary reductions take effect immediately and and will last for at least three weeks.
Newark is one of United’s hubs. The airline will go from 139 flights per day to 62 destinations to 15 daily flights to just nine destinations. At LaGuardia flights will be reduced from 18 per day to four destinations to just two daily flights to one destination.
“We are mindful that United Airlines continues to provide an essential service during these challenging times. The airspace at Newark and LaGuardia is among the busiest in the world and we have an ongoing responsibility to get people and goods where they need to be,” United chief operations officer Greg Hart said in a note to employees, as per USA Today.
