United Airlines has capped the number of Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs) that can be earned from partner flights. This was one of the best remaining options to earn status with United. The new policy goes into effect on July 1, 2020, for flights booked starting April 29, 2020.
United is extending status for those who have it, making it easier to earn going forward and is extending upgrades and subscriptions. All of the changes will be updated automatically and reflected in customers’ accounts in the coming weeks.
Newark is one of United’s hubs. The airline will go from 139 flights per day to 62 destinations to 15 daily flights to just nine destinations. At LaGuardia flights will be reduced from 18 per day to four destinations to just two daily flights to one destination.
So make sure you call right away and ask yo get miles back if your flight was canceled. United has been all over the place with its cancellation and refund policies, so better to do it now.
“Due to government mandates or restrictions in place prohibiting travel, we are reducing our international schedule by 95% for April”, the airline said in a statement.
For any customer whose international travel is disrupted by more than 6 hours because of schedule changes resulting from government restrictions, they will retain a travel credit equal to the value of their ticket. That credit can be used towards any flight, to any destination, for 12 months from the time of purchase.
