Track 5% Bonus Spend on Freedom Card
Chase Freedom is a great card to have in your wallet. If use properly, you can earn a total of $300 in cashback every year, with purchases on select categories. Chase Freedom earns 5% cash back (really 5x Ultimate Rewards points) on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in bonus categories each quarter. That’s $75 cash back or 7,500 Ultimate Rewards every three months. You need to activate these categories quarterly.
One small issue with the card has been that it was not a straightforward process to see how much you had earned in a quarter. It would show a progress bar but not a dollar value. You could go into the page code and see that actual value, but that’s not very user friendly.
Now that has changed, and Chase is showing Freedom cardholders the actual dollar amount earned in cash back through the 5% categories in the current quarter. To find this, go to the Ultimate Rewards Home, and then Rewards Activity. Scroll down and you should see the breakdown for each 5% category and the total earned so far. You will still the progress bar on the right side.
As you can see I haven’t been using my Chase Freedom card much this quarter. I did so during Black Friday and Cyber Week, but those charges do not show yet. So that it another thing to keep in mind when calculation how much spending you have left. See in Most Recent Activity and add up the transactions that earn 5% (labeled as Bonus Earn) since the last statement close.
The process is not perfect yet, but it is now better.
