The Plastic Merchant was a private gift card buying and selling platform. If you’re a gift card re-seller you have probably heard of them or done business with them in the past. Then checks started bouncing and the company went under. Many people lost large amounts with TPM, as they weren’t paid for gift cards they submitted to the site. According to the company the owner got sick and then they went bankrupt.
But now there’s some new developments, hinting at a possible comeback. Shawn at Miles to Memories writes that The Plastic Merchant website (theplasticmerchant. com) is back up with some very very interesting language.
It reads:
We will be back soon!
Sorry for struggle. We will provide a much better service in the near future. We will rise like a phoenix from the ashes!
Stay tuned! You will not regret it!

Guru’s Wrap-up
Besides the site coming back, and what’s written in it, everything else is just speculation. It includes an affiliate link to Amazon and a direct link to eBay gift cards. It could be that someone took over the domain but as MtM points out, from the whois information doesn’t seem to look like it was transferred anywhere.
Even if somehow the company is back in business, I really doubt many people will trust them after what went on last year.
Let me know what you make of this, and if you have used or would use TPM again.
The site is a fraudulent redirect to an Amazon affiliate link. It should be reported and not linked to. Michael C. Dean is a scammer.
thx. url was converted automatically to a clickable link in my post. fixed it.
