Stop & Shop/Giant, 5x Fuel Points on eBay Gift Cards

From 1/15/16 to 1/21/16 you can earn 5x fuel points when you purchase eBay gift cards at Stop & Shop (or Giant). You have to present your Stop & Shop card when purchasing the gift cards and also when redeeming your points at the gas station.

Here’s how the fuel points work. Every 100 points are worth $0.10 off per gallon on your fill up of up to 35 gallons. If you buy a $400 worth of the listed gift cards, you will receive 2000 points. That would be $2.00 off per gallon. Multiply that by how many gallons you can pump in one fill up, to calculate your profits.

The limit is 35 gallons, which will rarely be reached with just one tank. It might make sense to fill up two cars at once, although in the Q&A it says that discount can only be used on one vehicle, limited to the tank’s capacity. The more you can pump in one transaction, the better the deal gets.

You can only redeem up to 2200 points per transaction, which is $2.20 off per gallon. That’s about the same as the price of gas in NY right now. If you do the max of 35 gallons then that’s a $77 discount, which makes it the cheapest way to purchase eBay gift cards.

They expire after 30 days from the day of purchase, so make sure to buy only enough gift cards that will cover your usual gas expenses, but don’t go overboard. Points can be reedemed at Stop & Shop gas stations and at participating Shell locations which can be found here. In New Jersey, savings apply after fueling at the posted price and will appear on the receipt.

If you don’t have a Stop&Shop near you, the deal should be available at Grant as well.

Please read more here on how to use your points, if you’re not familiar with them.

  1. last month I had over 2000 points to redeem at the pump, gas price was like $1.94, I had to pay like 10 cents per gallon for weird reasons, end up like 3 or 4 bucks for 2 cars. I can deal with that, just not sure how it suppose to work when you have more points than the cheaper gas.

    • Honestly I’ve never looked at it since gas has only now approached $2.10-$2.20 around here. But it looks like this maybe the answer.

Q – I redeemed gas at a Shell location and had enough points for free gas, but the pump did not give me free gas. I had enough points, why didn’t I get free gas?

A – This technical limitation has been discovered at Shell Stations. Shell station’s pumps are unable to roll back to $0.00. The pumps will roll back to lowest price possible depending on the station’s equipment. Shell is diligently working on a fix for this situation. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
