Safeway, $10 Off Next Purchase When You Buy $100 Amex Gift Card

Safeway and its other brands have a new deal on American Express gift cards. It’s not as good as good as recent deals they’ve had on Visa gift cards, but could still worth it.

Buy $100 in American Express Gift Cards and get $10 off you next shopping order!

There’s no direct link to the offer, but Doctor of Credit has an image of the coupon.

Key Terms

  • Offer expires 5/2/17
  • Not valid in VT
  • Club Card required

How It Works

This offer doesn’t seem to be like previous ones where it comes in the form of a digital coupon that needs to be loaded to your account. It should work as long as you purchase at least $100 in Amex gift cards. Most likely your Club Card is required.

This offer doesn’t give you an instant discount, so works best for those who regularly shop at Safeway and their other brands. The $10 discount towards a future purchase doesn’t have a minimum spend requirement so you should be able to purchase $10 worth of free stuff. But the coupon probably expires 14 days from the issue date (HT: Sugar China) so make sure you use it before expiration.

Don’t forget to use a credit card that gives you the most points at groceries stores such as Blue Cash Preferred, Old Blue Cash or Chase Freedom that has grocery stores as a bonus category this quarter.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

These coupons are usually limited to one-time use only, but either way it is a great deal and a great way to get some free groceries. It’s definitely worth a visit if you have a location nearby.

Just keep in mind that Amex cards are not the easiest to deal with, so you should probably go for the smaller denominations.

  1. Just visited Safeway and got the $10 coupon (having an expiration date). AE Gift card can be redeemed at Amazon and used to pay Comcast bills.
