TurboTax/IRS Launch Online Tool to Register for Stimulus Payment

TurboTax and IRS have partnered together to launch a free stimulus registration website so that Americans who do not file tax returns can get their checks faster. The website launched today. If you’re not required to file taxes and don’t receive Social Security benefits, use the free Stimulus Registration for non-tax filers to give the IRS your up-to-date mailing address and direct deposit banking info.

The product is free to use and includes a stimulus payment calculator that will tell you how much you should receive from the government.

Americans are getting a one-time government check of up to $1,200 ($2,400 for couples) and are under certain income thresholds, $75,000 or $150,000. Qualifying dependents children under 17 are eligible for $500 payments with some exclusions. You must have a Social Security number  to qualify for a stimulus payment. Non-resident aliens, people without a Social Security number, and adult dependents are not eligible.

Around 10 million Americans do not file tax returns because they have little or no taxable income. But, since IRS will use federal tax returns to determine and send individual stimulus payments, those who don’t file are at risk of not receiving their payment.

The IRS plans to begin electronic payments for Americans who qualify and have direct-deposit information on file on April 9th. Those who qualify but haven’t provided the IRS with bank information through a tax return, TurboTax’s online portal, or Social Security or railroad retirement benefits tax form will begin receiving paper checks beginning April 24.
