This is a roundup of news and other interesting pieces that I’ve come across over the last few days. Read about the new Barranquilla Marriott Hotel in Colombia, CLEAR launching at MKE, Tornado Cash blacklisted by Treasury Department, tax credits for airline fuel, and a fun tool for road trips.
CLEAR has launched its expedited security screening lanes at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE). MKE is CLEAR’s first airport in Wisconsin and 45th across the U.S. The launch is expected to create 34 jobs and generate more than $2.6 million in local economic activity.
The U.S. Department of Treasury on Monday sanctioned the popular cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash, banning Americans from using a service that the government said, “launders the proceeds of cybercrimes.”
“Despite public assurances otherwise, Tornado Cash has repeatedly failed to impose effective controls designed to stop it from laundering funds for malicious cyber actors on a regular basis and without basic measures to address its risks,” Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson said in a statement.
The US Senate on Sunday passed the $430 billion Inflation Reduction Act. The bill heavily incentivizes the research, development, and production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). It includes a tax credit of up to $1.75 per gallon for airlines that continue to switch over to SAF. This is part on an overall plan to lower airline emissions by 20% over the next eight years.
Barranquilla Marriott Hotel, a tribute to the vibrant city of Barranquilla known as the “Golden Gate of Colombia,” surrounded by lush tropical landscapes and the colors of the Colombian Caribbean.
The 191 spacious guest rooms and nine suites feature a modern, thoughtful design characterized by warm wood tones reflecting the tropical dry forest vegetation typical for the area, bright and cheerful colors, flooded with natural light and weaving in uniquely Colombian character.
