International air traffic in July was 92% below 2019 levels, and there was little sign of improvement in August, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). More than 400,000 airline jobs have been cut since February, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Five Brits jailed on Isle of Man after wearing masks to buy lunch
Jack Smith, 18, Robbie Rhodes, 18, Luke Fletcher, 22, Michael Smith, 43, and Christopher Lafayette, 62, had arrived on the island to complete two days’ work on a railway when they went into the supermarket to get food. However, they didn’t realise that the Isle of Man, while a Crown dependency, is not in the UK and has its own coronavirus laws, including 14 days of mandatory self-isolation for anyone arriving from the mainland. A resident who spotted them wearing masks in Tesco then reported them to the police, and they were arrested at their hotel.
4 airlines have COVID testing for Hawaii travel
Hawaii has a mandatory 14-day quarantine for all out-of-state travelers. Starting Oct. 15, travelers will be able to present documentation of negative COVID-19 test results administered 72-hours before the last leg of their flight to bypass the quarantine. They will also have to submit a temperature check and fill out health forms on the state’s Safe Travels digital system.
Southwest CEO says it can avoid layoffs through 2021 with employee pay cuts
Southwest Airlines can avoid furloughs and layoffs at least through 2021 if union workers agree to pay cuts, Chief Executive Gary Kelly told employees on Monday. Last week, Kelly had warned the airline could be forced to follow rivals and lay off thousands of employees due to the coronavirus crisis in the absence of an extension of federal payroll aid, which lawmakers continue to negotiate in Washington. If the federal relief does come through, the airline would discontinue or reverse the pay-cut efforts, Kelly said.
