New Chase Freedom Unlimited Will Earn 1.5% UR Points

There’s been talk about the new Chase Freedom Unlimited card for a while now and we knew that it was expected to come out soon and that it would earn 1.5% and it wouldn’t have an annual fee. What we didn’t know was whether that 1.5% would be just a flat cash back (similar to Citi’s Double Cash Back card), or 1.5% UR points (similar to current Chase Freedom) which would make the card much more valuable.

Today I read DoC‘s post that quotes TPG with information from Chase. They confirm that the new Chase Freedom Unlimited card will earn UR points and that the current Chase Freedom card will continue to exist. At a rate of 1.5% back in UR points, this card will be of great value to many. There’s different valuations to UR points, depending on your own redemption, but you can get at least a value of 2.25% back and probably up to 2.5-3% if you spend your UR points wisely.

Chase Freedom Unlimited will be released in April and it looks like a great addition to the bank’s lineup. It will come with a $175 sign up bonus as well (HT: angelina travels), $150 after $500 spend and $25 for adding authorized user. You can just switch from Freedom or other Chase cards to the Freedom Unlimited, if you’re constrained from Chase’s 5/24 rule. Keep in mind that just like the Freedom card, Freedom Unlimited must be accompanied but a UR card such as Sapphire Preferred or Ink Plus so you can transfer cash back to UR points.
