New Casino Proposal for Coney Island

The developers behind a potential new Coney Island casino have unveiled impressive renderings of the project, showcasing a massive gambling destination that includes a hotel, a concert venue, and many restaurants and other attractions.

The project is backed by developers Saratoga Casino Holdings, Global Gaming Solutions, Legends, and Thor Equities. It is one of the many New York City casino proposals vying for three coveted downstate gaming licenses.

Talks about new casinos opening in NYC include one in Hudson Yards, on top of the U.N. in midtown Manhattan, in Times Square, MGM Empire City5th Avenue, Willets Point in Queens, the Trump Golf Course in the Bronx, and Nassau County in Long Island.

“The Coney” is located in the popular Coney Island section of Brooklyn. It will have a 32-story, 500-room hotel tower, a 2,500-seat concert venue, 90,000 square feet of meeting and event space, retail and dining establishments, and a public green space.

The Coneyโ€™s development plot is bound by Surf Avenue to the north, Jones Walk and the iconic Wonder Wheel to the east, and West 15th Street to the west. Multiple thoroughfares, including West 12th Street, Bowery Street, and Stillwell Avenue/Ruby Jacobs Walk would traverse the property beneath skybridges.

Visitors would have panoramic vistas of the entire Coney Island beach, Luna Park, and the Atlantic Ocean from an outdoor terrace space. Views from the hotel rooms would be even more expansive.

According to Brooklyn Paper, the partners need to first share their $3 billion plan with the New York Gaming Facility Location Board. Then they need to request input from those who live on Coney Island and then actually secure a license. So while the renderings look great, the actual casino is far from reality.
