National Grid has a promotion that could get you a free Google Home Mini and $50 in gift cards. You need to be a National Grid customer in New York with central air conditioning, and probably also need to own a Nest thermostat.

Offer

National Grid will give you a $30 e-gift card and a Nest Mini for signing up for Rush Hour Rewards. And if you stay enrolled through each summer season, you’ll receive an additional $20 e-gift card. That means you must sign up by September 30th of a given year and participate in 80% of rush hour event hours. You need to be a National Grid customer in New York with central air conditioning.

Rush Hour Rewards

National Grid will pay you to use National Grid’s energy when everyone else is using more. And your Nest thermostat can do it automatically.

Here’s how it works:

  • National Grid wants to lower demand during energy rush hours, like those hot summer afternoons when everyone’s cranking up the air conditioning.
  • A Nest thermostat can help you use less energy by cooling your home in summer or heating your home in winter ahead of time and tweaking the temperature up to three degrees during the rush hour.
  • You’re in control. If you’re home, Nest won’t let the temperature become uncomfortable. You can change the temperature at any time.
