MORPHotel, A Futuristic Vision On Cruising

London architect Gianluca Santosuosso’s floating hotel concept, MORPHotel, looks more like an invading alien creature than a conventional hotel.

‘MORPHotel’ is a floating ecosystem developed with a linear, spinal structure composed of individually connected capsules hosting rooms and luxury facilities. It will change shape based on the ocean currents.

MORPHotel is self sufficient, with solar panels, floating vegetable gardens, and rainwater harvesting facilities to keep the property functioning at sea.

It spans about half a mile in length. It has a helipad and detachable boats so guests can wander around and explore the surrounding area. Once docked at ports, guests would have the ability to explore on land, and locals would be given access to the amenities on board.

“When I started to think about the project I first wondered to myself what the most luxurious thing we have is? The answer was time. From this came the idea, and then concept, of this never ending travel across the world without a precise destination, without hurry” – Santosuosso told the Daily Mail.

“I believe the idea of the journey itself, without a precise destination, is a dream shared among most people,” said Santosuosso. “This is the reason why this project, the idea behind it, raised the interest of many people, especially in the hospitality industry.”

Don’t rush to book any rooms. It is just an idea and a rendering. There’s no completion date, or a price tag yet. The renderings do look impressive and the idea an amazing one. Is it achievable? Could it stand up to treacherous high seas? I’m not sure, as I’m not an expert in the field, but I surely hope so.

“I am quite confident that nowadays, with the right technologies, would be possible to build something following the concept of MORPHotel” – said Santosuosso.
