JetBlue Raises Checked Bag Fees Again
JetBlue is raising checked baggage fees again, making it even more expensive for travelers to bring luggage on their next trip.
Starting November 3, 2026, passengers booking new tickets will pay as much as $70 for their first checked bag during peak travel periods when adding luggage within 24 hours of departure.
The new rates are higher across several categories, with the first checked bag now starting at $50 during off-peak travel when purchased in advance.
This is another increase for JetBlue, which already raised baggage fees earlier this year. Other airlines soon followed with their own fee hikes, and I expect the same to happen this time around.
JetBlue’s New Checked Bag Fees
Here’s what passengers will pay under the new pricing for flights within the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.
| Checked Bag | More Than 24 Hours Before Departure | Within 24 Hours |
|---|---|---|
| First bag, off-peak | $50 | $60 |
| First bag, peak | $55 | $70 |
| Second bag, off-peak | $70 | $75 |
| Second bag, peak | $75 | $85 |
These prices apply to standard economy fares without a free checked bag benefit.
The new rates apply to tickets booked on or after November 3, 2026. Travelers who booked before that date should remain under the previous baggage fee structure.
How Much More Will You Pay?
JetBlue previously charged $45 for the first checked bag during off-peak travel and $49 during peak periods when purchased more than 24 hours before departure.
Under the new pricing, those fees increase to $50 and $55, respectively.
Here’s how the prepaid prices compare:
| Checked Bag | Previous Price | New Price |
|---|---|---|
| First bag, off-peak | $45 | $50 |
| First bag, peak | $49 | $55 |
| Second bag, off-peak | $59 | $70 |
| Second bag, peak | $69 | $75 |
The increases range from $5 to $11 per bag when purchased in advance.
For example, a passenger checking one bag on a round-trip flight during off-peak dates will now pay $100 instead of $90, assuming the same fee applies in both directions.
If that passenger waits until the last 24 hours to add their bag, the round-trip cost could jump to $120.
How to Avoid JetBlue Checked Bag Fees
There are still several ways to get free checked bags when flying JetBlue.
- JetBlue Plus Card: Includes a free first checked bag for the primary cardholder and up to three companions on the same reservation, subject to benefit terms.
- JetBlue Premier Card: Also includes a free first checked bag for eligible travelers.
- TrueBlue Mosaic 1: Includes one free checked bag.
- TrueBlue Mosaic 2โ4: Includes two free checked bags.
- Eligible premium fares: Certain BlueFirst and Mint fares include one or two checked bags.
- Some transatlantic fares: Include a checked bag depending on the fare purchased.
Travelers can also save money by adding their bags more than 24 hours before departure instead of waiting until check-in.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
JetBlue has raised baggage fees several times in recent years, and these latest prices are getting pretty steep.
Paying $70 for a single checked bag during peak travel is a lot, especially if you’re traveling with family and everyone has luggage. And with fees charged each way, the extra costs can add up quickly.
If you’re booking a JetBlue flight, make sure you compare the total price after baggage fees. A cheaper ticket might not be such a great deal once you add everything up.
