If you live in Scottsdale, Arizona you can now receive autonomous grocery deliveries from Fry’s Food Stores, a subsidiary of grocery giant Kroger. Deliveries will cost $5.95 and you can schedule either same-day or next day deliveries. It is only available at addresses within the store’s zip code of 85257.
For now the deliveries will be provided by Nuro’s fleet of modified Toyota Priuses which have a safety driver behind the wheel. But soon they will start using Nuro’s R1 vehicle which is completely autonomous with no driver at all. The vehicle has a maximum speed of 25 mph. That’s also a smaller narrower and lighter vehicle that will minimize damage even if accidents did happen.
