Hyatt Hotel Category Changes For 2020

Hyatt Hotel Category Changes For 2020

Hyatt Hotel Category Changes For 2020

World of Hyatt category changes have been been announced today. Most hotel chains reshuffle hotels into new categories every year to better reflect the value of each property. Besides the category changes, World of Hyatt will also introduce off-peak and peak redemptions in March.

The annual award chart updates will take effect on March 22. No new Categories have been added, and the points required for each Category will remain the same.

  • When you book before March 22, your reservations will follow the current free night award chart found here.
  • Reservations made on or after March 22 will follow the new free night award chart and incorporate the updates noted below
  • Existing reservations for nights on or after March 22 will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moved to a lower category

In 2020, a total of 217 hotels will move into a different categories. 17 more hotels are moving up than down, but it is still an acceptable balance, unlike Marriott Bonvoy’s changes that were a disaster. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 117 hotels are moving to a higher category
  • 100 hotels are moving to a lower category

Guru’s Wrap-up

These World of Hyatt category changes don’t seem too bad. But the impact for you will depend on whether your favorite hotels are affected. If a property is set to increase in price, make sure you book now. If you book a property now and it decreases in price, then you will be refunded the points difference.
