Hyatt Announces Alila Sengokuhara Hakone, Opening in 2028
Hyatt has announced plans to bring the Alila brand to Japan for the first time with the opening of Alila Sengokuhara Hakone, a luxury resort scheduled to debut in 2028. Developed in partnership with Fujita Corporation, the new property will be located in Sengokuhara, one of Hakone’s most scenic areas and a destination renowned for its natural hot springs, mountain landscapes, and tranquil atmosphere.
Set within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, the resort aims to embrace Alila’s focus on wellness, sustainability, and immersive local experiences. Hakone is one of Japan’s most popular onsen destinations and is easily accessible from Tokyo, making it a favorite getaway for both domestic and international travelers. Guests will also be close to attractions including the Hakone Open-Air Museum, volcanic Owakudani Valley, and the region’s famous pampas grass fields.
While Hyatt has not yet revealed all of the property’s amenities, the company says Alila Sengokuhara Hakone will emphasize mindful luxury, locally inspired design, wellness programming, and a strong connection to the surrounding natural environment. The resort will reflect the Alila brand’s philosophy of offering authentic experiences rooted in local culture while providing the high-end service and accommodations the brand is known for.
We do know that the hotel will feature 60 guestrooms, including 11 suites, each with a private natural hot spring bath. There’s also a yoga deck immersed in the surrounding landscape that will offer guests a quiet space to breathe, stretch and reconnect.
The announcement continues Hyatt’s expansion of its luxury portfolio across Asia and follows several recent brand growth announcements, including the upcoming Park Hyatt Riviera Maya and Grand Hyatt Los Cabos all-inclusive resorts. For World of Hyatt members, Alila Sengokuhara Hakone will add another aspirational redemption option when it opens.
