Status matching and challenges are one of the best ways to get elite status. So earning top tier status in one program could also earn you top status on another program through matching. Hilton Honors is one of those programs that lets you match status and also offers challenges. Today I was told that they are updating the program requirements for Status Match to align with best practices across the travel space.
Hilton Status Match & Challenge Changes
Hilton says that the goal is to simplify the program and make elite status even more valuable. Here’s the changes:
- Every eligible member will be matched to trial Gold – there will no longer be an option for Status Match to Diamond tier.
- Complete 10 nights within 90 days, and your Gold status will be extended through March 31, 2021.
- Complete 18 nights within 90 days, and you will be upgraded to Diamond status through March 31, 2021.
So Diamond tier is no longer an option through status match. Challenges have now switched to nights requirements, instead of stays. So to extended Gold for example, you now need 10 nights within 90 days, instead of 4 stays. But you have the option to be upgraded to Diamond status with 18 nights within 90 days. While this could be a good news for people that often have long stays, it should be bad for most. The Diamond status match is no longer an option, only Gold. Challenge extends your Gold tier to March 31, 2021 with 10 nights within 90 days or upgrades to Diamond till March 31, 2021 with 18 nights within 90 days. You can also get Hilton Honors status from Hilton credit cards. Amex Hilton Aspire gets you Diamond and Amex Hilton Ascend get you Gold.
