New Gift Card Scam at Kroger, CVV Missing on Visa Gift Cards
I have written in the past about gift card scams at Kroger. But I came across a post on reddit by bplturner, who reported a new type of scam that I haven;t heard of before. He bought noticed that four of the Visa Gift Cards that he purchased didn’t have a CVV number. He was able to drain three of them. You can see the image of the cards without a CVV below.
Having a card without a CVV number is not the end of the world. You can still drain it in person. But it does limit you from most online uses. And sometime scammers mess up the magnetic strip as well, which makes it even more difficult to use anywhere.
Probably the goal for scammers here is to delay the use of fund on the card, so they have a chance to use it before the buyer does. It is yet another reminder to thoroughly check gift cards as soon as you buy them and also to use them as quickly as possible.
