Emirates Changes Skywards Miles Expiration Policy in 2027
Emirates is making a notable change to the Skywards Miles expiration policy, getting rid of the program’s unusual system that ties expiration dates to a member’s birth month.
Beginning June 1, 2027, newly earned Skywards Miles will be valid for three years from the flight or partner activity date, rounded to the end of that month.
Currently, miles expire three years after they’re earned, but the expiration is rounded to the end of the member’s birth month. That means two members earning the exact same number of miles on the same day can have different expiration dates simply because they have different birthdays.
Under the new system, everyone earning miles from June 1, 2027 onward will receive the same three-year validity period regardless of birth month. That also means that miles will likely expire a few months earlier for most members.
Importantly, the change will not affect Skywards Miles already in your account. Miles earned before June 1, 2027 will continue to follow the existing birth-month expiration rules.
